As a gay man, I know the challenges of being in the closet both in personal life and in the workplace. I also understand the challenges of coming out. I have traveled this journey myself, and have guided others on it. My son, who is adopted, first reached out to me when he was 15 and living in a highly abusive home. I took him in when he was thrown out at 18. My oldest client had been married for 47 years when he decided to come out of the closet. His journey took more than a year; we took it together. Not all of life's challenges are about our sexual identity.
