About David
I’m David, a seasoned product leader and former top-tier management consultant who’s helped tech professionals land roles like Director of Product, Staff Engineer, and Technical Product Manager at high-growth startups and Fortune 500 companies. I've been a hiring manager at McKinsey and Company and served on the firm's performance review board for early career technologists. During my time at McKinsey, I conducted hundreds of case studies and personal experience interviews for aspiring consultants and technologists. I know the challenges individuals face when applying, and how to break through the pack. I offer resume screenings, interview prep, and leadership coaching with a direct, supportive style shaped by my years coaching ice hockey and teaching high school and university (in my pre-McK days). As someone who has switched careers paths a few times (teacher >> monkey scientist >> management consultant >> product manager), I can help you find your path and a career you love.
Why do I coach?
Before I was an industry professional, I was a professor, high school teacher, and youth ice hockey coach. I came into the world of management consulting and product management ten years after the average new hire, and quickly realized that among my peers that success was not dependent on age and experience, but rather embracing a growth mindset and being exceptionally curious. I was fortunate to have many great coaches in my life, from my early days playing ice hockey, to my academic mentors, and finally to my sponsors at McKinsey. Through Leland, I hope to pay it forward and help many of you achieve your goals.
