About Chelsea
Growing up, Chelsea was an avid reader and developed a deep interest in both the human mind and the human experience—an interest that has since evolved into a strong commitment to advancing neuroscience through clinical care and research. As an MD/PhD student at Stanford University School of Medicine, Chelsea is pursuing dual training in medicine and neuroscience to become a physician-scientist dedicated to improving brain health and patient outcomes. Chelsea graduated from the University of Virginia in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and minor in English Literature. During her undergraduate years, she engaged in research spanning biomedical engineering, systems neuroscience, and clinical neurosurgery, co-authoring 7 publications. Outside the lab, Chelsea served as a volunteer firefighter-EMT, crisis hotline specialist, and founder of an after-school education program for elementary students—experiences that deepened her understanding of service, resilience, and the critical importance of compassion in healthcare. Her academic and service achievements were recognized with numerous awards, including the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, as well as multiple institutional scholarships and research grants. In her own application cycle, Chelsea was invited to interview at more than 20 MD and MD/PhD programs and received offers of admission from over seven top-tier institutions. Through this process—and nearly a decade of mentoring experience—she has developed a deep understanding of what it takes to craft a compelling application, prepare for interviews, and succeed in the rigorous world of medical training. Today, Chelsea is passionate about empowering aspiring medical students with the tools, strategies, and mentorship needed to navigate their own journeys into medicine and science.
Why do I coach?
Chelsea’s passion for mentorship is deeply rooted in her own journey. She first learned about the MD/PhD pathway as a junior in college—thanks to a mentor who helped illuminate opportunities she hadn’t previously considered. That formative experience sparked her commitment to making mentorship more accessible, especially for students who may not have early exposure to academic medicine. At the University of Virginia, Chelsea championed education and service in a variety of roles: she founded an after-school program for elementary students, became a certified writing tutor and volunteered tutoring local immigrants, served as Vice Chair of the university’s Diversity Committee and a member of the Diversity Council, and led the AED Premedical Honor Society as its President. At Stanford, Chelsea has continued to build on this commitment. She has served as a co-lead of the MSTP BOOST program for the past three years—an initiative that supports underrepresented students pursuing STEM careers—and has sat on the MSTP admissions committee for the last two cycles, where she evaluates and advocates for talented physician-scientist trainees from all backgrounds. Over the years, Chelsea has mentored dozens of aspiring medical students, providing strategic and personalized guidance on everything from crafting compelling application materials to excelling in interviews. Her approach is grounded in equity, empathy, and a belief in the power of community. Through her mentorship, Chelsea hopes to help shape a future in medicine that is not only excellent, but truly inclusive.
