Tim’s Corporate Development Qualifications
Experience level: Vice President
50+ people coached for Corporate Development
I currently lead the finance organization at Collectly, Series A FinTech startup backed by Sapphire Ventures. Prior to taking on the CFO role, I was VP Finance at two a16z-backed early-stage startups (Keep Financial and Co:Create). Before 2022, I had been a VP Corporate Development, forging multi-billion dollar strategic partnerships, leading 20+ investments on behalf of American Express, and leading the $850 million sale of Kabbage in the midst of the Covid pandemic. Building on 10+ of my investment banking and growth equity experience, I successfully transitioned to an operating role at Kabbage, the leading provider of financial services to small businesses. I devised and led distribution partnerships with the leading banks in the world growing Kabbage’s revenues to $500 million. When Covid hit, I led the overhaul of our corporate strategy and led the company’s sale, while managing relationships with our board, investors, partners, and employees. Joining American Express as part of the Kabbage’s sale exposed me to the most challenging process of any acquisition – integration. While building a cross-functional team to ensure Kabbage fit well within American Express, I led the expansion of Amex’s small business services via M&A and strategic investments deploying over $1 billion of capital in 2 years.

About Tim
I have spent the past 15 years shaping the financial services, consumer, and technology sectors. My journey began as an investment banker at Deutsche Bank, before leading an all-star equity research team at Morgan Stanley. The next milestone was at Lazard, where I managed a $1 billion growth equity fund and delivered a 19% IRR over 4 years. The momentum continued when I moved to Kabbage, a leading provider of financial services to small businesses. There, I forged strategic partnerships and led the company’s successful sale to American Express in 2020, generating an impressive $850 million outcome. In the last 3 years, I helped 10+ teams raise capital from such leading VCs as a16z, invested personally in 20+ financial technology and crypto startups, and founded a financial advisory firm Grail Capital. As an investor, I am always on the lookout for exceptional teams to support. This philosophy extends to my own team and mentees. Several of my former associates have gone on to prestigious roles at leading hedge funds and VC firms, have taken companies public, and have founded successful startups. I find immense fulfillment in empowering talent and helping them reach their full potential. Looking forward to getting to know you and exploring how I could set you up for success!
Why do I coach?
