Director of Product Design
The New York Times
March 2016 - October 2017
I co-led Beta, the internal incubator that was charged with bringing in new audiences and growing loyalty. I also cultivated a design culture for The Times, including implementing a process that aligned cross-functional teams and career ladders for designers. I led a design team of 14 and was part of a multi-disciplinary leadership team of 100+ that attracted new audiences and increased subscriber engagement. We mapped user wants with business goals to find on-brand, revenue opportunities, and evangelized a user-centered, agile product design and development process. Our team conceptualized and built out products that all beat their targets for engagement and revenue, including: NYT Cooking, Crossword & Games, Watching, and dozens of health and wellness guides. I also led strategic planning for the acquisition of Wirecutter and then its integration.
