About Justin
As a current MD/PhD candidate at Baylor College of Medicine's Medical Scientist Training Program, I bring a unique perspective to medical and graduate school admissions coaching. My journey began in Reno, Nevada, where growing up near Lake Tahoe instilled in me a love for the outdoors that I maintain to this day. After earning my B.S. in Biology from Duke University, I carried my passion for science and medicine to Houston, where I've found my calling as a future physician-scientist and as mentor. At Baylor, I've immersed myself in helping others succeed, serving on admissions committees for both medical and graduate schools while providing MCAT tutoring and undergraduate mentorship. This hands-on experience gives me current, insider knowledge of what it takes to stand out in today's competitive admissions landscape. When I'm not in the lab or mentoring, you'll find me staying active on the tennis court, soccer field, or running trails. I'm also an avid cook and bookworm – because I believe that maintaining diverse interests makes us better scientists and physicians!
Why do I coach?
My journey to becoming a physician-scientist was transformed by the mentors who guided me through the complex maze of applications, study strategies, and career decisions. Now, I'm driven to be that same guiding light for others. Having navigated the challenges of MCAT preparation, medical school applications, and graduate studies myself, I intimately understand the questions, doubts, and pressures that aspiring physician-scientists face. What energizes me most about coaching is showing others that excellence in academia doesn't require sacrificing personal wellbeing. I've developed strategies that help maintain work-life balance while pursuing these demanding goals, and I'm passionate about sharing these insights. Every time I help someone craft their path to success or overcome an obstacle they thought was insurmountable, I'm reminded of the mentors who once did the same for me. In this challenging field, strong mentorship isn't just helpful—it's transformative, and I'm committed to paying that forward.
