About Joey
Hailing from the rural San Joaquin Valley of California, I applied to college not even knowing what I didn't know. Fortunately, I was admitted to Princeton through the Questbridge College Match process on full financial aid, and I was able to start acquainting myself with the ins and outs of educational and career development, and of the challenges that those from more privileged backgrounds are often trained earlier to overcome to get into elite programs. Since Princeton, I've gone on to attend a PhD program in Anthropology at UC Irvine (Mastered out to go back to private sector, working at Universal Pictures in Analytics and Strategy), and then got my MBA at Stanford. It's in my DNA to share my learnings for students like myself, and I'm ready to help coach you to further that mission.
Why do I coach?
As mentioned above, I had a few lucky breaks, and a few great mentors, that helped me scale up quickly to attend and take advantage of elite institutions. These were opportunities that very few of my peers in my working class hometown were afforded the chance to encounter. Knowing this situation is incredibly common in socioeconomically challenged communities, I coach to expand knowledge sets for those who may have little chance to workshop their applications otherwise. For that reason, please reach out if you are first-gen/low-income and need a discount code. Happy to work with high-achieving students who have made the most of some very common constraints in today's world!
