About Grant

For 15 years, I've designed and facilitated development experiences: from teaching life skills in Nicaragua, to institutionalizing continuous learning practices at Alphabet's moonshot factory, spurring novel innovations like self-driving cars. While at Google, I was fortunate to lead and support multiple global, strategic initiatives to accelerate employee learning and performance, drive organizational efficiency, and fuel the company's success. I also coached 100+ Google leaders on career-related topics, developed and facilitated custom workshops with teams across Alphabet, and advised external start-ups focused on sustainability and social impact. In my current role at Pure Storage, I'm ensuring Pure's leaders are equipped to grow talent, drive performance, and lead with impact. In addition to my day job, my passion project is coaching professionals and helping them develop their careers and leadership capabilities. Outside of work, I'm a dedicated husband, proud dad of two adorable boys, and a committed Christian. I'm a big Survivor fan, and I am rediscovering my love for Lego as I build with my kids.

Why do I coach?

When I received an offer to work at Google, I collapsed on the floor. Not a heart attack; just pure elation. All the hard work and sacrifice had paid off. I had "arrived." Or so I thought. I rode the high for a time, getting to lead some very significant work, but eventually I couldn't shake the feeling of wanting "more." I thought promotions and role changes would help. They did, for a while. Yet, the feeling kept creeping back. Was I just being ungrateful? Google was consistently ranked as one of the best places to work in the world. I had my "dream job," at my "dream company," but I didn't feel satisfied. What was I missing? I was about to call it quits after seven years, when I discovered coaching. Something clicked. As a former teacher, I quickly recognized the value of reflection, self discovery, personalized learning, and appreciative inquiry -- all elements of coaching. Importantly, I realized that I hadn't been the only one struggling in their dream job. Many of the talented leaders I coached at Google had imposter syndrome, felt stuck in their careers, were frustrated by getting passed up for opportunities, and/or were searching for more meaning. Through their dedicated work, our coaching sessions helped them shift their mindsets, let go of limiting beliefs, and find clarity. Coaching my valued clients also helped me by tapping into my deeper desire to connect with and help others grow. One of the best parts? It didn't require changing roles or companies. I stayed at Google for three more years and had some of the most meaningful moments in my career. Why do I coach? Helping others find greater meaning at work and in their lives has helped me find more meaning in mine. If my story resonates, let's connect! You might be just a few tweaks away from your dream job and a happier life.
